St. Marnock’s Children Help Out At Prosper Fingal

Visit to Prosper

On Friday we went to the arch club across the road to make cupcakes and sandwiches for the people there and for homeless people, and there was going to be a party later that night in swords. It was all planned by Oliver. And we made a few mates while we were there and we got on with them though they found it hard to communicate, but they did! We had a good time there we think we made around four or five hundred sandwiches that’s a lot considering there was only four of us cooking the cupcakes and preparing the sandwiches. We took turns with what we did first the two girls (Jade and Melody the ones typing this) were the first to make the batter and icing for the cupcakes then the boys (Eammon and Sam) were the ones to make the sandwiches then they switched. We walked over at 11:30 and finished at 1:05 it was a great day and the people really appreciated our work. They invited us to do something that will coming up soon. Cant wait!!

ON FRIDAY JADE MELODY, SAM AND I WE ALL WENT OVER TO THE ARCH CLUB TO MAKE SAMBOS   FOR THE HOMELESS. WE MADE SAMBOS AND CUPCAKES. THE ARCH CLUB IS A PLACE FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIFFICULTY DOING SOME STUFF SO WE WENT OVER TO HELP THEM . I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HELP OVER THERE AGAIN AND I AM SURE JADE AND MELODY AND SAM WOULD LOVE TO GO BACK AGAIN I SURE WOULD!

Chess in 4th Class

For the last few weeks, 4th class have been learning how to play and improve at chess. Our coach, Eoin, from Portmarnock Chess club has been teaching us. First we revised how each piece moves. Next, we played small games such as ‘Chasing’ and ‘Give-away Chess’. Finally, we began to play full games.

On Tuesday the 27th of February, the two 4th classes came together to have a tournament. There were six rounds. We all moved between the two rooms as our partner changed for each round.

The winners were Sophie Ashmore (3rd Place and Best Girl), Zack O’ Malley (2nd Place) and Leonids Bernsteine (1st Place and Best Overall Boy)

It was amazing and fun to learn- Sophie

I learned that there are more games you can play with chess pieces-Maria

It is fun to learn chess- Amy

It was the best chess we have done in St. Marnock’s School- Jack

5th Class Visit Citi Bank

5th class went to Citi Bank and had a great time. We went on a bus to town. We did a lemon stand as our idea. We got a bunch of leaflets and we wrote on them.  We stuck them on the board. After that we had lunch. It was so nice. Then we got back to work. Both 5th classes went to their corners and got a board each. Then we got lunch again. That was even nicer. Then we went back to work and got into groups of fives. We did loads of work and then got a certificate. We went back to school.

On the 08.02.18 we went to Citi Bank. When we were there, we learned how to be an entrepreneur. We are taking part in the Junior Entrepreneur Programme (J.E.P.) this year.

We learned how to do all of this with the example of a Lemonade Stand. We learned this in a room called the ‘Fish Bowl’.

We were split into 2 classes- Ms. Phillips’ class and Ms. Monahan’s class. Each class had their on individual ideas.

RTE’s News2day came as well. 6 people (3 from each class) were interviewed by the presenter Tommy.

The six were Jake , Tom. Ava, Matthew, Sadbh and Cara.

We were to pose like the dragons from the TV shoow ‘Dragon’s Den’

It was great fun. After lunch, we were all split into our groups: Product/design, sales, finance, and marketing.

We learned a bit of what we should do and what our responsibilities were from actual marketing, finance, product/design and sales people. After all of the learning and fun we came back to school with just enough  time to pack our bags.

Pancake Tuesday Came Early!

We decided to celebrate Pancake Tuesday today as we have our cake sale tomorrow. We were very excited as Ms. Kenealy had brought in a special pan to make the pancakes. There was lots of options for toppings. There was lemon, nutella, banana and sugar. It think it is fair to say everyone loved them! There was plenty of empty plates and full bellies.

A Very Spiky Visitor!!!
